Simple Ways to Stay Active While Working from Home

Everyone that works from home knows that they are supposed to be active. It is by no means a secret that leading a sedentary lifestyle is bound to cause health problems. And that not leaving your home is bad news for your mental health. While almost all home office workers know this, most struggle with finding ways to stay active. Even if they find something interesting, they often forgo it after a month or two. Well, seeing that staying healthy should be your priority, let’s take a look at a couple of ways to stay active while working from home.
Different ways to stay active while working from home
There are two aspects you need to consider in order to find a way to stay active while working from home. First, you need to find something that feels nice to do. Regardless of the activity, you need to find some pleasure in doing it. Ideally, it should be something you can do year-round. While there are many fun fall activities in Colorado, you should really be active as often as possible. Luckily, there are countless outdoor activities you can choose from, from hobbies to sports and playtime.
The second thing is to find a reason to stick to your activity even when you don’t really feel like it. Finding something new isn’t usually the main issue for people. Everyone can be interesting at the start. But, after a while, all activities can become monotonous. So, instead of always skipping to something new, try to find something that you can enjoy, even on off days. Once you start doubting whether or not to do something, you need to have clear, thought-out reasons why you should be active. Let’s take a look at a couple of examples.
Get a dog
Adopting a pet is one of the best things you can do as a remote worker. Countless studies show the benefits pets bring to the owner, both mentally and physically. In addition to that, the emotional bond you grow with them is invaluable, which is why people don’t think twice about keeping their pets, even when moving. So, if you haven’t so far, do consider getting a pet.
Now, while cats, birds, rodents, or even reptiles can give you some activity, there is hardly a substitute for a dog. Dogs require regular walks. Seeing that dogs relieve themselves during those walks, you really cannot afford to avoid or postpone them. Therefore, you will have a clear reason why you need to be active.

If you are not accustomed to being active, a daily walk with a dog will do you a world of good. Dogs tend to prefer parks, which means you will soon find yourself in them. This will allow you to enjoy the sunshine, breathe fresh air, and socialize with other dog owners. All these are great for both your health and well-being.
Do home workouts
Let’s say that going out every day isn’t really your cup of tea. Some people would like to stay active while working from home. But they would prefer not to have to leave their home. Well, a neat solution could be to create a home gym. If you can develop a decent schedule and keep to it, you will look good and feel even better. But, when it comes to setting up your home gym, there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind:
- Get minimal equipment – Don’t spend a fortune on gym equipment, thinking that it will somehow make your workouts easier. Instead, invest in minimal equipment and grow it as time goes on.
- Find a program – Doing pushups, situps, and crunches every day is better than nothing. But, seeing that it is easier than ever to find free programs for home workouts, you really ought to find one that suits you. A good program should fix your posture and relieve any lingering pain.
- Don’t push yourself too hard – Feeling motivated in the first week or two of training is easy. But what ends up happening is that people push themselves too hard, burn themselves out, and forgo training indefinitely. Remember, this is a marathon. Not a sprint. Start slow and build yourself up over time.

One last thing to consider about home gyms is having a designated room for working out. People with homes should see to clear out a space and use it exclusively for work workouts. If you need to opt for long-term storage, Excalibur Moving and Storage advise that you let your company pack you.
Find a fun group workout
For most people, working out at home is a farfetched dream. Yes, they will start. But they will soon lose motivation. This is one of the main reasons why you shouldn’t invest too heavily in home gym equipment. Luckily, there are other ways to work out. One of the best ways to motivate yourself to be active is to find a group workout. Apart from group fitness programs, you can also go to:
- Dancing
- Planting and harvesting
- Woodworking.
- Martial arts
- Team sports
- Hiking
- Bike riding
- Running

These are just some of the many activities that you might have in your vicinity. So, do yourself a favor and see what’s out there. What we would advise is to prioritize the people that are there and not the activity itself. More often than not, you will enjoy spending time with good people and not doing a fun activity with those that don’t suit you. So, don’t shy away from trying something that doesn’t seem interesting at first glance.
Tackling motivation problems
The main reason people don’t stay active while working from home is the lack of motivation. While we all know we should be active, we often find reasons why now isn’t the right time to start. Most of what we’ve recommended is either free or quite cheap. Therefore, it is only up to you to find the time and go for it.
